Teenage Jail had nothing “country” about it. It was an iconic band’s foray into Heavy Metal. This album is too easily dismissed as being a failed effort to produce a double album. As much as I love “Hotel California”, I think this effort is superior. It’s a difficult record; best enjoyed after several hearings. The songs that were singles were all worthy, but everyone glosses over “The King of Hollywood”, probably the best song this band ever committed to vinyl. “The Sad Cafe” also doesn’t get it’s due. Why that tune wasn’t a single is a testament to the cocaine addled culture of the late 70s. A masterpiece.
